Sheldon Brown will be at the Eagles minicamp, which starts tomorrow, and there’s a good chance a camera, or two, finds its way to his locker. Brown is the latest Eagles player to voice his displeasure over the way the team does business. He won’t be the last one, either. So the story of this weekend won’t be the new offensive players the team added in the draft, or the new veteran tackles brought through trade and free agency. No, for at least one day and maybe more, it will be Brown and his demand for either a new contract, which he now says isn’t going to happen, or a trade, which still might, although that too is a longshot. I’ve talked to Brown twice this week, working for another …

Learning the Eagle way, the hard way
Opinions were mixed on the Eagles’ decision to wait until the second round to draft their running back. But teammates of LeSean “Shady” McCoy — and those who played against him — don’t need any convincing. “One thing about him, he was one of the most explosive backs in this year’s draft,” Mike McGlynn said. “[Knowshon] Moreno is up there and some of those other guys, but hey, [McCoy] is up there with pretty much the best of them at making big plays. I think it was a great pick for the Eagles.” McGlynn is, admittedly, biased. As an offensive guard, he helped create space for McCoy when the two were teammates at Pittsburgh in 2007. Without an effective passing game, McGlynn said the …

Eagles’ No. 2 pick could fill key role
Temple quarterback Adam DiMichele has been invited to participate in the Eagles’ minicamp this weekend on a tryout basis.DiMichele was a 3-year starter for the Owls, with 18 touchdowns and six interceptions. He was named Temple’s Offensive Most Valuable Player in 2007 and ’08.
Let’s say you’re the coach of an NFL team and you have the final say on personnel matters (any resemblance to actual coaches is purely coincidental). Now let’s say your team went pretty far in the playoffs last year with an aging core of players, and your analysis is that a partial overhaul is necessary in the off-season (any resemblance to actual NFL teams, etc.).Finally, for the sake of this exercise, let’s say you have a veteran quarterback who has been very good for most of his career, but has had injuries and is prone to prolonged slumps. Let’s say you also have a young quarterback you’ve been developing behind this veteran starter for a couple of years, and you believe he can play …

Eagles building for Kolb era
The smart thing for the Eagles to do became the easy thing the moment Bill Belichick agreed to trade Ellis Hobbs: Bid farewell to Sheldon Brown now, if not sooner. That would have been the smart move, anyway. Now that they have a better, younger player to replace the disgruntled cornerback, there should be no hesitation. The sooner Brown is out of town, the better. Trade him if possible, release him if necessary. If the Eagles can’t work through that process before this weekend’s full-squad minicamp, they should tell Brown not to come. The absolute wrong thing for the Eagles to do – and the thing they’ve publicly indicated they will choose in spite of reason and several hard-learned lessons …

Time to cut Sheldon Brown loose
A quick check of some well-trafficked Eagles message boards reveals a sentiment we don’t often see following the draft. If I’m reading these comments correctly, it appears, on the whole, that Birds fans are . . . happy. Wondo40: “The Eagles are having a nice off-season. Fly Eagles Fly!” Tek9: “Eagles front office should get plenty of credit for what they have done! We’re quick to call them out, let’s be quick to say they get the job done.” Whatadraft: “A in my book.” And my favorite: Robx46: “Welcome Maclin, you seem like a good dude. Learn to hate the Cowgirls!” Brilliant. Robx46 is destined to hold public office. I had to check to make sure I wasn’t surfing sites dedicated to the …

Draft makes Eagles fans forget how to boo
JEFF WEACHTER sounds like a parent sometimes when he talks about LeSean McCoy, biased and proud and hopeful and the rest. Weachter sounds like a football coach sometimes when he talks about the Eagles’ second-round draft choice, too, cold and clinical and sharp-eyed and unforgiving. Weachter coached McCoy at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg. McDevitt also produced Ricky Watters, back when. Weachter did not coach Watters, but he is like the rest of us, interested in the comparisons between the two running backs. Weachter says he has a witness. “My defensive coordinator was there when Ricky played,” Weachter said. “He told me that at the end of LeSean’s junior year, he was better …

If Donovan McNabb has a problem with his contract, we’ll have to wait until Friday’s mandatory Eagles minicamp to hear about it.McNabb discussed a contract extension late last season, but a recent ESPN report suggested he might want to wait until he sees what the Eagles did in the off-season to improve the team. The quarterback didn’t mention his contract on his blog yesterday on yardbarker.com. Instead, he seemed excited about the team’s off-season moves.”Make no mistake, I’ve been training like crazy to make sure that I can improve as a quarterback and do everything necessary to try and win a championship for this city,” McNabb said in his first football-related blog post since he bid …

McNabb says he’s eager to start minicamp
Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, who has been relatively quiet this offseason since Super Bowl week, weighed in on the Birds’ new additions and a number of other topics yesterday morning on his yardbarker.com blog. Here is what he wrote . . . as posted yesterday on Eagletarian (www.eagletarian.com), the Daily News Eagles blog. The Eagles begin mandatory minicamp on Friday. “Make no mistake, I’ve been training like crazy to make sure that I can improve as a quarterback and do everything necessary to try and win a championship for this city,” McNabb wrote. “I said it before, I was inspired by the way the Phillies won the World Series and how they were treated by the city and their fans and …

The Eagles on Monday signed nine undrafted free agents, including Penn State defensive end Josh Gaines. The 6-foot-1, 274-pound Gaines will join Vanderbilt safety Reshard Langford, Weber State fullback Marcus Mailei, Illinois State running back Walter Mendenhall, Brigham Young guard Dallas Reynolds, Boston College wide receiver Brandon Robinson, Massachusetts cornerback Courtney Robinson, Wake Forest kicker Sam Swank and Indiana running back Marcus Thigpen at the team’s first minicamp next weekend.
