A closer look at the new runningback

Sometimes, statistics don’t tell the entire story. Sometimes, they’re just misleading altogether. That seems to be the case with Martell Mallett, the Eagles’ newest running back.Mallett, who the Eagles signed last week, earned the Canadian Football League’s top rookie award and was named an all-star after he put up Brian Westbrook-like numbers for the British Columbia Lions, rushing for 1,280 and six touchdowns on 214 carries(an average of 5.8 yards per carry) and also caught 43 catches for an additional 342 yards and two touchdowns. That’s 1,622 total yards and eight touchdowns on 257 touches, an average of 6.3 yards per touch. Pretty good numbers, for any league. It’s not uncommon for …
