Joseph “Chubby” Imburgia, of Claymont, has been a football official in Delaware and southeastern Pennsylvania for 46 years. This fall, Imburgia will work his 18th season as an official on the chain crew for Eagles home games. Imburgia was hired by former Eagles president Harry Gamble in 1992. When the TV cameras flash to the sideline and the chain crew is visible, the man holding the down-marker pole is often Imburgia. Imburgia, 77, retired as a high school field official in 1989. He started officiating in 1953. Imburgia stills works Delaware high school football games in Wilmington as the official timekeeper in the press box.
