Eagles Defense Guru Johnson Faces Cancer Treatment

Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson has been excused from workouts for rookies and selected veterans this week because of a new round of cancer treatments, the club said on Monday. Johnson, 67, the Eagles’ longtime defense chief and architect of their blitzing style, is battling cancer that has spread from his skin to his spine. The team said secondary coach Sean McDermott, an Eagles assistant since 2000, would fill in for Johnson.
