Eagles need Jones to step in at safety

When the Eagles signed free-agent Sean Jones during the offseason, it was assumed the former Cleveland Browns player would challenge for the starting job at free safety. Instead, rookie Macho Harris won the job. Harris had to leave Monday night’s game in Washington game with an ankle injury, so Jones might be getting a second chance. Harris sat out Thursday’s practice, while Jones practiced with the first team — an indicator he might start Sunday against the New York Giants. “He’s an experienced safety who has been in the league a number of years,” Eagles defensive coordinator Sean McDermott said of Jones. “He sees things that you can’t even draw on the chalkboard for him.
