Eagles’ new linebacker could slow opposing tight ends

It’s been almost seven seasons since Carlos Emmons last played for the Eagles. Since then, the Eagles have been unable to find a strong-side linebacker who could cover a tight end as well as he did. The Eagles may have found their solution in Ernie Sims, the Detroit linebacker they traded for Monday in a three-team swap. In 17 games last season, the Eagles’ defense surrendered 107 catches for 1,118 yards and nine touchdowns to opposing tight ends. “I just feel like covering tight ends – that’s where I use my speed,” Sims said Tuesday at the NovaCare Complex. “That’s the name of my game, is speed.
