Eagles release running back Brian Westbrook
The Eagles today said goodbye to one of their franchise pillars under coach Andy Reid, releasing two-time Pro Bowl running back Brian Westbrook. Westbrook, who played just eight games last season and suffered concussions in back-to-back games, was slated to make $7.25 million this season. After signing a contract extension before the 2008 season, Westbrook battled persistent injuries and eventually lost his starting job last season to rookie LeSean McCoy. Reid will speak to the media later today.
