Eagles want Sims to tone down hits

August 17th, 2010

Ernie Sims has been a one-man wrecking crew for the Eagles during this training camp. And that’s not necessarily a good thing. The latest Eagle to almost suffer an injury because of a hit from Sims, a linebacker, was tight end Brent Celek, who was leveled by Sims during a nontackling passing drill Monday morning. The ball fell incomplete, and Celek was hunched over for a few minutes while trainer Rick Burkholder attended to him. Celek was OK afterward, but Eagles coach Andy Reid wasn’t pleased as he talked to Sims while Celek was down. Neither was defensive coordinator Sean McDermott. “We want to take care of our teammates, number one, and we have to keep that in mind,” McDermott said.
