The perception that Max Jean-Gilles underwent a weight-loss procedure to save his job isn’t entirely accurate. He’s also trying to save his life. The Eagles’ fifth-year reserve guard hopes the gastric lap band inserted in his stomach last month by a New Jersey doctor helps him slim down to meet the Eagles’ weight requirements. He also helps it prevents him from incurring any health-related issues that normally accompany people his size. Jean-Gilles, who has batted obesity frequently throughout his career, ballooned to nearly 400 pounds this offseason before electing to have the procedure.
