For 11 years, the Eagles played one person at free safety and never had reason to change. As long as he was healthy, seven-time Pro Bowler Brian Dawkins would take the field and rarely come off. This year, after Dawkins fled to Denver via free agency, the Eagles not only filled his void with someone new for the first time in more than a decade but they changed their overall approach to the position. Instead of the stability and reliability of one, they’re relying on the production and versatility of three.
