We like to believe in man’s inherent good nature. We like to look in the mirror and find someone who is capable of summoning his or her better angels. We like to believe we are all capable of change. Which, in so many ways, is why many of us are rooting for Michael Vick to take back his life and, in the process, re-establish himself as a productive NFL player. None of us is forgiving or forgetting the heinous, evil acts that landed him in Leavenworth for nearly two years. Spare me the convoluted arguments about how dogfighting is part of some cultures or that it’s no worse than hunting deer and elk.
