New center tries to adapt

A.Q. Shipley keeps hearing the same knocks against him — he’s not big enough for center, his short arms are liabilities and he doesn’t have the size needed to clash helmets each weekend with mammoth NFL defensive tackles. But he’s heard the criticisms since high school, so they aren’t a deterrent to his current mission.
