New Eagles tight end Curtis out with high-ankle sprain

THE EAGLES’ newest tight end, Tony Curtis, won’t be able to practice fully for a week or so because of a high-ankle sprain.That takes Curtis past the cutdown to 75, next Tuesday. Very possibly, signing a guy this late in camp when you know he isn’t healthy means the Birds intend for Curtis to be on their regular-season roster, backing up Brent Celek, along with either vet Matt Schobel or undrafted rookie Rob Myers. (Myers might be ahead in that race. Eugene Bright, the defensive end conversion project, will be doing well to make it past Tuesday.)Curtis, 6-5, 251, comes with a reputation as a blocking tight end, which was what he did during his 3 years with the Dallas Cowboys.
