Smith out as Eagles assistant coach

Otis Smith is no longer on the Eagles’ coaching staff.A team spokesman declined to say why.Smith was the assistant secondary coach during the 2008 season, after serving as an intern in 2007. Secondary coach Sean McDermott has served as defensive coordinator during spring workouts while Jim Johnson battles cancer. However, the Eagles also recently hired former Dallas defensive coordinator Brian Stewart.Smith, 43, played 13 seasons in the NFL, including four with the Eagles (1991-94).Smith could not be reached for comment.
