Steve Smith can’t celebrate Big Blue catch record as New York Giants fall to Philadelphia Eagles
It should have been a moment to celebrate, but it didn’t seem to matter much to Steve Smith. With a catch on the first play of the third quarter, the Giants’ third-year pro broke Amani Toomer’s single-season team record for receptions. With Toomer in attendance, it could’ve been quite a moment. But it was ruined by the Giants’ 45-38 loss to the Eagles. “I can’t be happy about that at all,” Smith said. “I’m a team player and we lost tonight.” Smith finished with seven catches for 74 yards and now has 85 catches for 1,053 yards on the season. Toomer had 82 receptions in 2002 for the previous record. Smith needs 291 yards in the last three games to break Toomer’s receiving yardage record …
