Julius Peppers got away, but the Eagles were able to sign another free agent yesterday. They just happened to sign one of their own restricted free agents. The Eagles inked Leonard Weaver to a three-year contract, making him the highest-paid fullback in league history. The deal is worth $11 million with $6.5 million guaranteed, according to Weaver’s agent, Harold Lewis. “That speaks volumes,” said Weaver, a Pro Bowl starter last season. “To have the title of being ‘the highest-paid fullback in the NFL history’ says a lot. Weaver deal done, Peppers still a chance

The Eagles’ first major acquisition of the free-agent signing period is a player that was already on their roster. Terms of Leonard Weaver’s contract extension are all set, his agent said, and once his autograph is on the paper, he will have agreed to a three-year deal that will make him the wealthiest fullback in NFL history. A league source said the deal is for $11 million, $6.5 million of which is guaranteed. Incentives can stretch it to $12 million. But the Eagles aren’t out of the Julius Peppers swepstakes, although the Bears have the first crack at signing the All-Pro defensive end.
