When the NFL Coaches Association filed a brief with the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals last Wednesday, the non-unionized trade association claimed that its members supported the NFL players in their ongoing labor dispute with the NFL owners. Not so fast, the Eagles say. The Eagles on Thursday became the latest in a growing number of NFL teams to take issue with the NFLCA’s brief, making it clear that their coaching staff does not endorse the NFLCA’s position. “The Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff was not aware that a brief was being filed by the NFL Coaches Association in the Eighth Circuit Court against the NFL Owners last week,” head coach Andy Reid said in a statement released by the

Plaxico Burress, a free man and wearing the uniform of the rival Philadelphia Eagles? “It’s pretty tough to deal with all those different combinations,” said Brandon Jacobs, who has more of an idea where Burress is headed than anyone else. Jacobs said he also believes he knows where Burress is not headed. “There is no chance Plaxico Burress is a New York Giant after he comes home,” Jacobs said. “None.” Jacobs was and remains Burress’ closest friend on the Giants, and he cannot express in words how happy he is that his buddy finally is getting released from prison. On Monday, Burress will walk out of Oneida Correctional Facility in Rome, N.Y., having served 20 months for shooting himself in

Kevin Kolb wants the Philadelphia Eagles to trade him and allow him to become a starting QB when the lockout ends. But he understands there’s no guarantee that will happen. And, after showing up to work out with Eagles teammates on Thursday, Kolb vowed he would be content if he returns as a backup to Michael Vick again next season. “If the situation (being the Eagles’ backup) can’t be avoided, I’m not going to sit there and be a turd,” Kolb told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “That’s not my style. I think that I’ve voiced my opinion, and there’s nothing more I can do. Just like always, whatever situation arises, I’ll just have to roll with the punches.”

Advice for those Philadelphia Eagles fans planning their vacations around the Birds’ annual flight to Lehigh University for training camp: Might want to keep an eye on that Shore rental, just in case. Lehigh Dean of Athletics Joe Sterrett said today that a philly.com report that indicated a mid-June “drop-dead” deadline for the Eagles to notify Lehigh if camp would go on at the campus as scheduled wasn’t entirely accurate. Still, he said that some lead time would be necessary once the NFL lockout is lifted or a settlement is reached between owners and players. “Normally it would take three to four weeks to put up the stands and tents that we do for camp, and the Eagles usually start

Michael Vick knows all about second chances. And he’d be thrilled if the Philadelphia Eagles gave one to Plaxico Burress. The New York Daily News reported Saturday that the Eagles are interested in Burress, who’s scheduled to be released from prison June 6 after serving 20 months on weapons charges. If the team can sign the wide receiver, Vick said, it “absolutely” would be a good move. “I think with the guys we have now, I think we can fit him in and we can make it work,” Vick said Monday on WIP-AM. “Obviously the ultimate goal at the end of the day is to put that ring on your finger at the end of the year. “I think certainly Plaxico is going to come out with a chip on his shoulder the

The Kevin Kolb rumor mill has the Philadelphia Eagles trading the quarterback to the Arizona Cardinals. Or the Seattle Seahawks. Or the San Francisco 49ers. Or the Cleveland Browns? NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi believes it’s a possibility. “I’m not buying the Colt McCoy love affair going on in Cleveland,” Lombardi said Thursday on KTAR-AM in Phoenix. “I don’t know how you can have the love affair. I know he’s played well, but they managed him in the game, and there were some moments where he really didn’t play as well.”

The Eagles, led by quarterback Michael Vick, held an informal workout Thursday on the turf field at Memorial Sports Complex in Evesham. Most of the Philadelphia-area media was not at the workout. Its location was kept secret from the media and fans. WPVI-TV (Channel 6) in Philadelphia, however, was there. It did show footage of the drills, which were conducted by Vick and about a dozen other players. Vick, along with wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and tight end Brent Celek, were videotaped at the camp. According to Burlington County Times sources, wide receiver Jason Avant and running back LeSean McCoy were at the workout. So was former Moorestown High School running back Albert Young, now a

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick led several of his teammates and locally-based NFL players Thursday at a workout in Marlton, N.J., according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Vick said last week that he expected around 15 players at the practice, though it appeared that the group that showed up was much smaller. Tight end Brent Celek, wide receivers Jason Avant and Jeremy Maclin and Vikings running back Albert Young were on hand for the session, which was attended by 6ABC TV in Philadelphia. “The one thing that we do know is that we’re professional athletes and we can’t sit around and not do anything,” Vick told 6ABC. “The speed of this game, the toughness that you have to have

Andy Reid was encircled by football players in green uniforms with Eagles emblems and the coach was . . . well, coaching. “You knock the crap out of each other, but nobody gets hurt. Head up, feet moving,” a fired-up Reid said Tuesday before he called the troops together. “All right, somebody get in here and break this down, man!” And then, on three, they did: “One, two, three – Philadelphia!” It felt just like any Eagles practice at the NovaCare Complex, except it wasn’t. Reid was addressing nearly 100 Philadelphia-area high school football players who were preparing for Saturday’s City High School All-Star Classic at Lincoln Financial Field. Normally at this time he would have his own

Whenever the NFL gets back to business, Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid will be ready to strike. “It’s a good, aggressive plan,” Reid told the Philadelphia Inquirer about the team’s offseason strategy. “When they say go, we’re ready to go.” A number of teams covet backup quarterback Kevin Kolb, and the Eagles could be one of several teams making a play for free-agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. Reid has told his staff to be ready, in case the lockout is lifted quickly at some point. “The coaches know that vacations this year will be a little bit different,” Reid said. “You don’t want to be taking camel rides in the Sahara Desert.

The Kevin Kolb rumor mill continues … ESPN’s Adam Schefter said earlier this week on a Seattle radio station that Kevin Kolb could be heading to the NFC West, and that “all signs point” to the Arizona Cardinals. During a mailbag posted today, Schefter expanded on that notion and reported that the Eagles and Cardinals spoke on Day 1 of the NFL Draft before Arizona selected cornerback Patrick Peterson with the fifth overall pick. The league, however, said such conversations were not allowed during the draft. Writes Schefter: The market for Kolb will be similar to what it was before, minus the San Francisco 49ersand Cincinnati Bengals. I still think the Seattle Seahawks will have some
