Bobby April, who interviewed this week for the Steelers’ special teams coordinator vacancy, signed today with the Philadelphia Eagles. Agent Frank Murtha confirmed that April, who met with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin on Sunday and also interviewed with San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary, accepted a similar position with Philadelphia.

Center A.Q. Shipley, a Coraopolis native who hoped to follow in Mike Webster’s footsteps with the Steelers, signed with the Philadelphia Eagles today. Shipley, who started 39 games at Penn State and made several All-American teams, was drafted in the seventh round by the Steelers last year. However, he did not make the team and spent the season on their practice squad.

Brian Westbrook will spend today at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center visiting concussion specialists. After suffering his second concussion in 20 days in the third quarter of the Eagles’ loss at San Diego on Sunday, the team said yesterday that Westbrook would consult with neuropsychologist Mark R. Lovell and neurosurgeon Joseph Maroon. Eagles trainer Rick Burkholder said Lovell had been communicating with the team’s medical staff on the running back’s condition since he suffered the first concussion in an Oct. 26 game at Washington. Right until the end, to the minute that Michael Vick signed with the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday night, there was widespread national media speculation that he could be headed to the Steelers. How does this happen? Do that many people not do their homework?
