Trade boosts Eagles’ Will Witherspoon

Players rarely enjoy being traded, but sometimes from a professional standpoint these things have a way of working out for the best. Consider the case of linebacker Will Witherspoon. After beginning the season with the St. Louis Rams, Witherspoon was acquired by the Eagles on Oct. 20 for wide receiver Brandon Gibson and a fifth-round draft pick. Had that trade not gone down, Witherspoon would have labored through a 1-15 season with the Rams and would be sitting around waiting for next season. Instead, he’s preparing for a tonight’s playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys.
