Andy Reid didn’t mince words Wednesday when asked why his linebacker trio needed Jeremiah Trotter. “His size and strength — that part is always welcomed,” Reid said. “You’re looking at Omar (Gaither), who bounces between 235 and 237 (pounds) and you’re looking at Trot, who is 255. It brings just another look that the offense needs to be concerned about.” For years, the Eagles have emphasized speed over size. They routinely jog out undersized defensive ends, use high draft picks on sub-300-pound defensive tackles and prefer smaller, quicker cornerbacks even while the NFL trends toward bigger, lankier wideouts.
