Vick has time to work off the field

Michael Vick’s victory took place in a hotel room several hours before the Eagles’ final preseason game Thursday, when NFL commissioner Roger Goodell informed him that he will be allowed to play in Week 3 of the regular season. For one day, Michael Vick, the reformed dogfighting ringleader, was much more successful than Michael Vick, the rehabilitating football player. But Vick’s football victory will come soon enough, beginning Sept. 27 against the Kansas City Chiefs, when he will be eligible to play for the first time since the end of the 2006 season. The Eagles, meanwhile, felt victorious despite their 38-27 loss to the New York Jets, and despite Vick’s uneven performance.
